LARKANA, July 1: A large number of growers, depending on the Saeedo Minor near Bharchund Peer village, staged a demonstration here on Monday to protest against the acute shortage of water.
The demonstrators were carrying the Holy Quran on their heads and were demanding water in their area.
They said rice saplings were drying due to the unavailability of water.
The protestors were led by Mohammad Juman Jakhro, Nadir Hussain Jakhro, Ghulam Sarwar Abro, Rajab Ali Jakhro, Hussain Shah Rashidi, Abdul Razaq Bharchund and others.
PTCL: The employees union of the PTCL have demanded of the higher authorities to confirm daily wage employees of the Telegraph Division in accordance with the agreement.
The demand came at a meeting of the union held here on Monday, with union chairman Zulfiqar Sanghi and secretary-general Rana Mohammad Tahir in the chair.
LDA: The Sindh government has devolved the Larkana Development Authority (LDA) by placing its staff at the disposal of the local government, rural development, public health engineering and kutcha abadi departments.
The LDA was established in 1994 under the Sindh Assembly Act.
Under the new arrangement, the development schemes, which were being carried out by the LDA, have been transferred to the respective taluka municipal administration (TMA) and district government and the unutilized development funds out of Rs48 million would be deposited in the provincial government accounts.
The building control functions would now vest in the Larkana TMA in accordance with section 52 and 54 of the Sindh Government Local Government Ordinance 2001 and the assets of the LDA would be handed over to the District Coordination Officer.
Under the new plan, the deputation and detailments have been cancelled and the officers on deputation and detailment will now have to report to their respective parent departments.
A sum of Rs7.888 million available in the accounts of the LDA against the call and security deposit of 29 contractors against schemes either completed or under execution by the LDA would be returned to them upon satisfactory completion.
GOVT TRADE UNIONS: An all government employees trade unions association alliance was formed on Thursday in a meeting chaired by Sabir Soomro.
Soomro said this new body will represent federal and provincial employees.
