PESHAWAR, July 1: NWFP Governor Syed Iftikhar Hussain Shah has stressed the law enforcement agencies to be more alert and cautious towards their responsibilities to maintain law and order and protect life, property and honour of the people.

Presiding over a meeting at Governor’s House here on Monday to review the law and order situation both in the province as well as the Federally Administered Tribal Areas, the governor described the generally law and order situation as satisfactory.

He directed that efforts must continue to bring further improvement in this connection. The meeting besides the chief secretary Shakil Durrani, secretary home Javed Iqbal IGP Mohammad Saeed Khan was also attended by IG FC Maj-Gen Tajuddin Khan, Commandant FC Mohammad Israr Shinwari and the provincial heads of other law enforcing agencies.

The governor especially referred to the incidence of kidnapping and car-lifting in certain areas and said that the law enforcing agencies should demonstrate much more wisdom and arrest the criminals.

He also desired that proposals must be finalized at the earliest to remove the deficiencies in respect of police strength in certain districts and said that efforts would be made to recruit the required number of staff without any delay. The meeting also noted the availability of heavy weapons in tribal areas.
