KARACHI, July 1: A community centre, parks, playgrounds, and roads will be constructed in Saddar Town and streetlights will be fixed during the new fiscal year, Saddar Town Nazim Farooq Memon Fariya said on Sunday while presenting the Town’s annual budget for the fiscal year 2002-03.

An amount of Rs23.03 million will be spent on building community centre, roads and footpaths, Rs8.25 million on development of parks and playgrounds and Rs4.95 million have been earmarked for installation of streetlights, while more than Rs186.1 million will be spent on employees’ salaries and Rs1.14 million as honorarium to members of the Town Council.

The Town Nazim said in view of Saddar Town’s usefulness more funds should be available to it so that more development works are carried out. The present resources and income, however, do not allow big development works, he added.

Town Naib Nazim requested the provincial government to allocate special grant to Saddar Town to help reduce its budget deficit.

Jamshed Town: A Rs263 million surplus budget of Jamshed Town was presented by Nazim Ahmed Parekh on Monday at the Council meeting.

The Nazim said Rs100 million have been allocated for development sector while Rs162.765 million were set aside for non-development expenditures.

He said non-development expenditures had been substantially reduced with a drastic curtailment in petrol/diesel, stationery and office expenses.

The Nazim said Rs108.357 million have been earmarked for salaries, while contingency plans will consume Rs51.435 million.

Other allocations included Rs3.05 million for repair and maintenance, Rs4.870 million for construction of storm-water drains and culverts, Rs51 million for construction of roads and footpaths, Rs10.04 million for streetlights, Rs4.350 million for construction and development of playgrounds and parks.

The Nazim told the Council that earlier the Town had estimated a recovery of Rs12 million from advertisements, but this has been taken over by the city government.

He said all the Town Nazimeen were trying to get back this source of income from the city government.—APP
