LAHORE, June 30: All development authorities in the province will continue to function as such even after their planned merger with the district government concerned, sources said here on Sunday.

“They are likely to be given in the administrative and financial control of the district governments. But they will continue to function as long as the districts do not have the capacity to perform their functions,” the sources said.

They said the merger which was imminent could take place either by repealing the Lahore Development Authority Act and the Development Authorities Act or by amending them.

However, they said, the government would most likely merge the authorities by only amending the laws so as to create a room for their functioning as such even in the administrative and financial control of the district governments.
