ISLAMABAD, June 30: All international contracts should be transparent and the entire preparation of documents be entrusted to experts, Law Minister Dr Khalid Ranjha said here on Sunday.

He was speaking at a seminar on “Scope, interpretation and implication of FIDIC conditions of contract and arbitration process in international arbitration”, organized by the International Islamic University Islamabad (IIU).

The minister said Pakistan’s relations with the international world were affected because the governments did not give due attention to their foreign agreements and contracts.

He said contracts and their drafting were given great importance in international relations and agreements, but in Pakistan ad hocism remained the order of the day and no proper and long-term planning was made, as a result, there was no proper documentation of important contracts and agreements.

He stressed the need of a thorough study of all foreign agreements and contracts prior to their signing to ensure that they did not create problems for the country.

Rector International Islamic University Islamabad (IIU) Justice (Rtd) Khalilur Rehman said the US did not fulfil its promise of providing details of secret bank accounts operated by Pakistani nationals in the US.

He said he had taken up the issue with the US authorities including the then US Attorney General Janet Reno. They had promised to give due consideration to Pakistan’s requests for information but to date they had not offered any help.
