Shopkeeper run over by tanker

OKARA, June 30: A shopkeeper was run over by a rashly-driven tanker on the Okara-Deepalpur Road on Sunday.

Reports said Gulzar Ahmad of Kot Arain was sitting in front of his shop on the Okara-Deepalpur Road when a tanker (OKB-3155) crushed him. He died on the spot.

Saddar police have registered a case against the absconding driver.

STRIKE: The local transporters’ association will go on a strike from Monday (today) against the imposition of toll tax at the entrance of Okara, Deepalpur, Hujra Shah Muqeem and Bangla Gogera.

The rate of tax for each trip is Rs35 for a bus and Rs25 for a wagon.

Association President Chaudhry Abdul Majid Bao told newsmen on Sunday that the vehicles’ owners would lose their profit to taxes.
