MUZAFFARABAD, June 30: Eight more persons, including two teenaged girls, were injured in overnight Indian shelling in Neelum valley in northeast of Muzaffarabad, police said on Sunday.

The injuries took place in Katha Kalsan village, which came under machine-gun and mortar fire for about one hour on Saturday night, a police officer told Dawn here.

Those injured were identified as Sakhawat Shah, 40, Rashid Shah, 35, Babu Shah, 45, Gul Hussain Shah, 45, Khani Zaman, 50, Sadaqat, 30, Najma, 14 and Hurmat Bibi, 18.

Earlier on Saturday, exchange of “post-to-post” fire between Indian and Pakistani troops was reported from Kel sector in the upper belt of valley.

Indian troops had also lobbed some mortar shells at the opening of Lesva bypass in the valley, called Zero Point.

Officials say that resumption of shelling along the Line of Control has shattered the hopes of the people of the affected areas regarding normalcy.

Some families, who were planning to return to their homes in the forward locations, have reversed their decisions, they say.
