NWFP gets new chief secretary

PESHAWAR, March 26 The federal government has posted Javed Iqbal as chief secretary of the NWFP.

A notification issued by the Establishment Division in Islamabad said Javed Iqbal, a grade 21 officer from District Management Group, currently serving as Additional Chief Secretary NWPF has been posted as Chief Secretary Government of NWFP. He will assume charge on March 28, the day the incumbent Sahibzada Riaz Noor will reach the age of superannuation.

Mr Iqbal has served in various key positions including additional chief secretary civil secretariat (Fata), secretary to governor, secretary home and tribal affairs, physical planning, irrigation, chairman provincial urban development board, political agent Khyber and Kurram and Deputy Commissioner Kohat. He also served in Pakistan`s High Commission in United Kingdom.

Official sources told this correspondent that the federal government was likely to offer the outgoing chief secretary a one-year extension by appointing him Member of the National Electric Power Regulatory Authority (NEPRA).
