KARACHI, June 26: Candyland completed their fourth win in a row when they won the weekly swiss league contest by accumulating 100 Victory Points (VP) at National Stadium.
Enjoying the services of Hamid Mohiuddin-Ziaullah, Khalid Mohiuddin-Hasan Askari and also fielding their captain Muhammad Ismail, they won first four matches from Mahmood 22-08, Attackers 21-9, Amin 24-06 and Zahoor 20-10.
They almost confirmed the top position before the start of their last encounter against PSO, which they lost 13-17 VPs.
Mazhar comprising Mazhar Ali Khan, Shoaib, A.K. Bhurgari and Hasan Sajjad finished in second position with a score of 92 VPs. They defeated Solex 22-08, Green 22-08, Shahid 21-09 and Zahoor 22-8, losing the second round match 5-25 to Amin.
PSO, with Pervaiz Mirza, Shakeel Chandna, Babar Iqbal, Zahoor and Navaid Anjum occupied third berth with a score of 87 VPs, winning from Printers 15-15, Friends 21-09, against playing draw 15-15 against Attackers 19-11 from Amin and finally 17-13 from Candyland.
In the pair contest, 38 pairs were placed equally in two houses, Shakeel Chandna-Pervaiz Mirza came on top.
It was a well contested house. The winning pair scored 57.95 percent followed by Abdul Khaliq-Nasir Reza 56.33 and Khaled - F.A. Naeem 56.08%.
However, there was absolutely no contestin the other house, where Saleem Ahmed-Gulzar Bilal outpointed every opponent on their way to the top. The pair scored 72.16%, Mahmood Naqvi, Rahimullah finished second with 58.20 and Rashid Shamsi-S.P. Jamal occupied last berth with a score of 57.74%.—APP
