RAWALPINDI, June 26: The Tehsil municipal administration (TMA) has taken precautionary measures to cope with the expected floods in Nullah Leh.
A TMA spokesman told Dawn that the administration had divided the area into four sectors, and each sector had been put under the charge of a TMA official. A control room has been established at the fire brigade office which will remain open round-the-clock during the monsoon season, the spokesman said.
He said a separate cell would be established for the sewerage of flood water. The Wasa director, Malik Muhammad Akram, will head this fully equipped cell.
The spokesman said the flood relief camps would be established at Government Islamia High School No: 4 and Municipal Model School Babu Lal Hussain, Dhoke Ratta.
“The TMA has also created a flood warning system according to which the fire brigade officials will also keep a vigil on floods in Nullah Leh.” In case, water rises to the danger mark, they will sound the alarm and transport the residents of low-lying areas to safer places, the spokesman said.
The fire brigade staff will also patrol different areas, especially the bridges to monitor the floods situation. It will also keep close coordination with the central control room of 10- corps headquarter, meteorological office, 111-brigade, district government and tehsil officials. A special group has been formed which will be called in case the water blocks in any sector.
Arrangements will also be made for anti-germs spray, vaccination and first-aid. The executive district officer (health) will provide all the necessary medicines for this purpose.
To provide lodging and food to the displaced people, a relief committee has been established which will keep contact with the philanthropists.
All these activities will be supervised by a monitoring committee comprising Tehsil Nazim as convener while Naib Nazim, Tehsil municipal officer, chairman of fire-fighting monitoring committee, chairman of workshop monitoring committee, chairman of sewerage monitoring committee and chairman of sanitation monitoring committee as members.
