BARCELONA, June 26: Around 650 people fell ill near the northeastern Spanish city of Gerona after eating cakes made by a local bakery, news reports said Wednesday.
Around 30 people remained in hospital after developing fever, diarrhoea and vomiting.
The victims, who included several tourists, had purchased hundreds of traditional Saint John’s cakes in Torroella de Montgri on Sunday. Doctors suspected that the cakes contained salmonella food poisoning bacteria.—dpa
