RAWALPINDI, June 25: The Rawalpindi Cantonment Board has launched a campaign to recover the outstanding property tax of Rs15 million for the fiscal 2001-2002, official sources told Dawn.

The campaign has been launched on the directives of the Rawalpindi Cantonment Board station commander, Brig Hamid Khalil. The board had set a target of Rs100 million as outstanding property tax for the year 2001-2002 while setting June 30 as the deadline.

Out of the total target, the civic body has so far recovered about Rs85 million and the RCB officials hope the remaining amount will be recovered till the end of June.

A special recovery team, comprising the Cantonment magistrate, local station house officer and the recovery staff, has been constituted for this purpose.

The board has also prepared a list of about 45 business tycoons, who have defaulted worth millions of rupees.

The recovery team will conduct raids on the business concerns to confiscate the movable properties.

“We are not disturbing the low and middle classes, but are set to recover the tax money from the big businessmen, “ the RCB chief executive officer, Kh Iftikhar Mir said.
