LAKKI MARWAT, June 25: In an anti-social elements campaign Lakki Marwat police shot dead a notorious proclaimed offender wanted to NWFP and Punjab police in dozens of cases, arrested highway robbers and recovered one kilogram hashish form a drug dealer.
According to a press briefing given by district police officer (DPO), Abdullah Khan, Lakki Marwat police also took strong action against elements hazardous to peaceful society on the instructions of provincial police chief (IGP), Saeed Khan, aiming to purge the province from miscreants and outlaws.
The presence of a proclaimed offender Umar Daraz son of Gul Daraz resident of Wanda Shahab Khel (Dadiwala police station), an accomplice of Mosami group and wanted by NWFP and Punjab police in dozens of murders and attempted murder cases was brought into the notice of the police. A party was formed, which raided his house in his village Wanda, Shahab Khel, some 20km away from here. The police tried to nab him with out any casualty but Umar Daraz, started firing on law-enforcement agencies and also hurled three hand grenades. In the exchange of firing Umar Daraz died. The police seized one Klashnikov, one hand grenade, four magazines and 60 cartridges from his possession. He was also the principal accused of the murder of a owner of a pick-up, Zafrullah son of Ghulam Hussain of Sharifabad of Mianwali district (Punjab).
