HYDERABAD, June 25: A three-day multi-purpose workshop for women, organized by the directorate of social welfare and women development, concluded here on Monday.

The workshop was attended by lady councillors, workers of NGOs and others.

The EDO, community development, Dr Amin Ali Bohan, visited various centres where women were being given training in different fields.

Speaking on the occasion, Mr Bohan said the basic purpose of the workshop was to make women financially self-sufficient

Later, he distributed certificates among the participants.

The district officer, social welfare, Ms Nayyar Malik, in her speech at the concluding session, urged the trainees to train others in their villages so that they could also become self-sufficient.

The manager of the First Women Bank, Ms Iffat, said a loan of Rs25,000 would be provided to women to start their business.

Women rights: A two-member team of Unicef here on Tuesday met the representatives of the Citizens Action Committees for Women Rights from Naushahro Feroze, Nawabshah, Thatta and Hyderabad at the NRSP (National Rural Support Programme) hall and reviewed the performance of the committees.

Later, the representatives of Unicef, accompanied by Hassan Pathan, Riaz Sohail and Dr M.S. Rizwana, visited bangle units in Latifabad and Islamabad and apprised themselves of the problems of the women working in the units.

Mr Manan said Unicef would make efforts to resolve the problems of the women workers of the bangle industry.
