RAWALPINDI, June 24: Residents of Javed Colony, Arya Muhallah, Dhoke Elahi Bakhsh and Muslim Colony have started evacuating their houses and shifting to safer places due to the fear of floods in Nullah Leh.

The water in Leh rose to the danger level, above 18 feet, on Monday morning due to overnight rain.

The civil defence authorities activated emergency sirens which caused chaos in the area. However, the people took a sigh of relief when the rain stopped and the water level dropped to normal.

According to the meteorological department, the twin cities of Islamabad and Rawalpindi received 111mm and 75mm rain respectively, which started on Sunday night and continued till 11am on Monday.

The Met department had already informed the authorities and residents of both Islamabad and Rawalpindi about the possibility of more rains in the coming monsoon season.

This prediction psychologically disturbed those who had suffered due to the floods in July, last year.

Before the start of monsoon, the Tehsil Municipal Administration had already issued notices to the residents of the above mentioned areas to evacuate their homes.
