AKORA KHATTAK, June 23: Information and Media Development Minister Nisar A. Memon said on Sunday that religious scholars should promote sectarian harmony and religious tolerance.

Talking with Jamiat Ulema-i-Islam leader Maulana Samiul Haq during his visit to the Darul Uloom Haqqania here, he urged the Ulema and Mushaikh to support the government’s efforts in this regard.

He recalled measures taken by the government to bring the students of Madaris into the mainstream.

The minister went round various sections of the Darul Uloom, including its computer section and library.

Maulana Haq, the Muhtamim of the Darul Uloom, said nearly 2,500 students were studying there.

The minister was happy to note that equal emphasis was being given on religious as well as disciplines like economics, law, taxation and sciences in the institute, with a view to producing an alumni well equipped to face the modern challenges.

The Madressah Registration Ordinance 2002 also came under discussion. Nisar Memon assured Maulana Haq that the government would keep the process of registration simple to avoid any difficulties.—APP
