HYDERABAD, June 23: The taluka city council here on Saturday demanded the establishment of a “city” university in Hyderabad in the wake of increasing population of the city.

Moving the resolution Qazi Niaz Ahmed claimed that opportunities of education for the city students were almost negligible and they had to go miles away to Jamshoro for this purpose.

He said that Hyderabad lacked sufficient facilities of education. He added that establishment of the university had become inevitable.

The taluka council members called for establishing the university at the model school building and said that it should be named after Sakhi Abdul Wahab Shah Jilani.

Another resolution, tabled by Usman Abbasi, was adopted unanimously. It pertained to the expenditure and losses of the taluka municipal administration.

He claimed that public problems could not be solved in absence of resources.

He said that the taluka council would have to generate financial resources to meet its expenditures.

He maintained that to overcome this issue the building of the taluka municipal administration be demolished and a new building be constructed with shops on its mezzanine and first floor.

The resolution further said that the office of the taluka council should also be accommodated in the same building to make the record and staff available at one place thereby improving the functioning of the taluka council.

It said that the place, that would be vacated after the construction of the new building, would also help increase the financial resources of the council.
