KARACHI: Policy on Kashmir

Published June 24, 2002

KARACHI, June 23: Leaders of various religious and political parties here on Sunday declared that any conspiracy to jeopardize Kashmir cause or acceptance of the Line of Control as a permanent border will be strongly resisted.

Speaking at a national Kashmir conference, which was organized by the Islami Jamiat Talaba, they contended that prior to taking a U-turn on the Afghan policy, people of Pakistan had been assured that it would help the country in its principled stance on Kashmir.

The JI secretary-general, Syed Munawar Hasan, said the serial retreats by the present government suggested that it was not capable of safeguarding the national interests, including the nuclear assets.—PPI
