WASHINGTON: June 22: Muslims have been joined by mainline Protestant groups and Jewish leaders in a chorus of protests over the blasphemous remarks about the Holy Prophet (PBHU), made by a former president of America’s largest Protestant denomination, the Southern Baptist Church.

The remarks were made by the Rev Jerry Vines on June 10, and American Muslim organizations have since been campaigning against the preacher’s hate-filled sermons. They have now won support from concerned Christians and Jews.

On Wednesday, Abraham Foxman, national director of the Anti-Defamation League, described Vines’s comments as deplorable and said it was not surprising that they came from the “leadership of the Southern Baptist Convention, which has a track record of denigrating and delegitimizing other religions”.
