LAHORE, June 19: The 34 districts in the Punjab will get a share of Rs12 billion out of Rs24 billion annual development programme for 2002-03.

Dawn learnt on Wednesday, the districts would get their share under a secured formula through the Provincial Finance Commission (PFC) constituted by the government early this week.

The amount for development works would be allocated to the districts according to the incidence of poverty besides population and other social factors.

The provincial government, according to Punjab Governor Khalid Maqbool, would also spend $224.23 million on 25 projects under the Punjab Road Sector Development Programme for improving and widening the roads.

The programme has been initiated with the financial assistance of Asian Development Bank.
