MIRPUR (AJK), June 18: The leader of opposition in the AJK Legislative Assembly, Sultan Mahmood Chaudhry, has called upon the world community, especially the US, to convince India to move to the negotiating table for a “result-oriented” dialogue with Pakistan to resolve the Kashmir dispute through the mediation.

In a letter sent to US Defence Secretary Donald H. Rumsfeld, Mr Sultan said the Kashmiris wanted that there should be firm commitments from both sides about some deadlines by which the core issue of Kashmir would be resolved.

“Imagine the prosperity and peace the resolution of Kashmir will bring to the whole world and especially the South Asian region,” the former AJK premier said, adding this would also give justification to the world community to demand a nuclear-free South Asia from India and Pakistan.

Mr Sultan said: “While dealing with this sensitive issue one must realize that it is absolutely essential for the world leaders to identify the root cause of the problems worldwide in order to effectively eradicate terrorism. Let me assure you that people of Kashmir are together with the rest of the world in this fight against terrorism”.—APP
