MUMBAI, June 18: Three people were killed in sectarian clashes on Tuesday in India’s Maharashtra state, a police official said.

He said nearly a dozen people were also injured in the violence in Jalgaon district, nearly 300 kilometres south of Mumbai.

The incident happened after an idol of Hindu god Hanuman was found desecrated, the police official added.

He said a curfew had been imposed in the area and that the situation was under control.—AFP
