Huzaifa crowned champion

KARACHI, June 17: Master Huzaifa Farooqi turned tables over defending champion Master Hasan by winning two races on the last day to become Optimist National champion, according to a press release.

The competition so tight that till the sixth race the three top sailors were close to each other and everything dependent on last race.

Throughout the race Danial Arshad kept leading with Huzaifa on his tow. Just on the a bad tack caused Danial’s boat struck into the wind which allowed Huzaifa to take charge and emerge winner.

Huzaifa Farooqi 17.7 penalty points First

Muhammad Hasan 23.1 penalty points Second

Danial Arshad 23.1 penalty points Third

Tobeh Washeed 66 penalty points Fourth

Adil Zuberi 67.1 penalty points Fifth

Meanwhile, defending champion Mohammad Yousuf started the defence of his title by capturing both the races on the opening day in Laser National Championship Monday. He was followed by Mazhar Iqbal in second place with Ashfaq Iqbal managed a third and fourth place.

During the races there have been eight protests lodged by the competitors against each other which will be heard today before the start of third and fourth race.

The protest committee comprising of international judges Zakaullah Chaudhri as chairman will meet at 11 a.m. today (Tuesday) at PN Awuatic Club.
