HYDERABAD, Oct 31: A spokesman for the Hyderabad Electric Supply Company (Hesco) said that the power supply to Khairpur Municipal Committee had been disconnected following the decision taken at a meeting between the Sindh Governor, Mohammedmian Soomro, and the chairman, Wapda, Lt Gen Zulfiqar Ali Khan, on Sept 29 at Karachi.

He said that all the defaulter departments of the Sindh government had been given instructions to clear their outstanding power bills within ten days failing which their power supply will be disconnected without any notice.

The spokesman claimed that a huge amount of Rs46.559 million was outstanding against the Khairpur Municipal Committee and despite negotiations between Hesco and Municipal officials, the dues had not been cleared and, therefore, Hesco had been compelled to resort to extreme steps.

The spokesman said that Hesco was following the policy of providing necessary facilities to the people and, therefore, the power supply in those areas which were necessary for the people had not been disconnected and their power supply had been restored. He, however, made it clear that the power supply to the offices of the municipal committee, Khairpur, would not be restored without the clearance of outstanding dues.

LOADSHEDDING: Hesco has announced that in order to improve the transmission system and connect the newly-commissioned 132 KV Sultanabad grid station with the 132-KV Tando Allahyar, Mirpurkhas transmission line, installation of power tower, and repair of T-5 transformer of 220 KV Hala road grid station, the power supply would remain suspended for 24 hours from Nov 3 to 4 to Mirpurkhas, Samaro, Khipro, Umerkot Pithoro, Chhachhro, Nabisar road, Naukot, Pangrio, Mithi, Deeplo, Islamkot, and Nagarparkar grid stations.

Similarly, he said due to repairing the Hala road grid station, there will be intermittent load-shedding from 6:00am to 12:00pm in Hyderabad, Tando Muhammad Khan, Tando Ghulam Ali, and the areas around Badin on Nov 3.
