LAHORE, Oct 31: Jamiat Ulema-i-Islam amir Maulana Fazlur Rehman said on Wednesday the party’s anti-US rally in Lahore on Nov 2 would add a new chapter to the history and prove a milestone for the defeat of America and its allies.

In a statement, the Maulana said Jihad in Afghanistan was being waged only for the sake of God. On the one, the Taliban were busy in crushing the Northern Alliance and on the other, proving a hard nut to break for anti-Islam forces. Now, he said, America and its allies wanted to save their faces in Afghanistan by using Ramazan as a pretext.

The JUI leader said the Lahorites had always raised their voice against suppression and would follow their traditions by attending the party’s rally on Nov 2, proving a shield for the entire nation against the American terrorism.

In another statement, JUI central information secretary Riaz Durrani condemned what he said telephonic threats given to JI amir Qazi Husain Ahmad by the interior minister.

He said the minister had forgotten decency to protect his job. The ministers were showing confusion after the failure of America and its allies in Afghanistan, and the talk of the interior minister with Qazi Husain Ahmad proved this, he said.
