LAHORE, June 13: The Public Court Committee set up for bringing improvement in the laws concerning the protection of women’s rights will submit its recommendations to the federal government by the end of this month.
This was stated here on Thursday by National Commission on Status of Women’s chairperson Justice Majeda Rizvi (retired) after inaugurating an exhibition of garments prepared by the trainee girl students of the Women Development Centre, Model Town.
Justice Rizvi, who also heads the Public Committee comprising retired judges, prominent people of society, human rights activists and lawyers, said the federal government would legislate laws in the light of the recommendations of the committee.
Punjab Social Welfare Minister Shaheen Atiqur Rehman was also present on the occasion.
Justice Rizvi said besides protecting the rights of women, the government was taking practical steps for providing speedy justice to oppressed women and secure for them a due status in society.
She appreciated the steps taken in the Punjab for the protection of the rights of women and hoped that similar efforts would be made in other provinces.
