Matric results leak confirmed

BAHAWALPUR, June 13: Sources in local Board of Intermediate and Secondary Education on Thursday confirmed leakage in the results of matriculation examination, 2002, before prescribed date June 15.

Dawn learnt the BISE higher-ups had constituted a committee to inquire into the matter.

Some board officials are allegedly involved in the leakage of results. Clerks Tariq and Aslam had allegedly charged Rs50 to 100 from each candidate desirous of knowing his marks. It is claimed at least 70 per cent of the result has been leaked before time.

HEART PATIENTS: Hundreds of heart patients from various districts have to return without treatment as the angiography machine at the Punjab Institute of Cardiology, Lahore, has been out of order for a week.

Local journalist Shahid Baluch, who took his brother to Lahore for angiography, told Dawn that they were made to stay in Lahore for about a week as officials claimed the machine was being repaired.

He said hundreds of visitors to the cardiology institute had to return without treatment despite having appointments.

TORTURED TO DEATH: A labourer of Shaidani Sharif, Liaquatpur, was allegedly tortured to death by Ahmadpur East police officials.

Shahbaz was tortured to death by police on Wednesday night.

The postmortem report confirmed scars on his neck and shoulders. His family demanded that a case should be registered against Ahmadpur East SHO Mian Noor. — Correspondent
