KARACHI, June 13: Residents of North Karachi, while welcoming the announcement made by the City Nazim, Naimatullah Khan, to sever water connections of all defaulters, have appealed to him to take action against encroachments and illegal water connections taken by some mosque administrations.

The residents pointed out that an amenity plot in front of Government Primary School in Sector 5-E, New Karachi, was encroached by a religious organization. Notices for removal of the same were also served, but no action was taken.

According to the residents, a two-inch dia connection was taken by the mosque administration.

The area residents complained to the authorities, but no action was taken as the North Karachi Town Nazim is allegedly the president of the said mosque administration.

Abid, a resident of the sector, said that he had tried to submit an application to sever the water connection of the mosque, but the area councillor allegedly refused to entertain the application.

The residents asked the City Nazim to issue orders for necessary action against these violations.

Meanwhile, the residents of North Nazimabad’s Block A have also approached the City Nazim against the illegal commercial construction on residential plot no A-242 in the area.

In a petition, they stated that the owner of the plot had carried out unauthorized commercial construction of shops and flats against which the residents of the area approached the chief controller of the Karachi Building Control Authority on March 11, 1999, who not only stopped construction but also demolished the illegally-constructed portion.

After about three years, illegal commercial construction on the same plot has again been started by the owner, in sheer violation of the building bylaws, the residents said and appealed to the City Nazim for prompt action against it.—APP/PPI
