PESHAWAR, Oct 31 : NWFP Governor Syed Iftikhar Hussain Shah has said that the world has gone far ahead in the field of new and sophisticated technology. But, he added, “we are far behind and, therefore, without wasting any more time, we have to redouble our efforts so that we could keep pace with developed nations in the race for development.”

Inaugurating a biotechnology centre and a computer centres at the University of Peshawar on Tuesday , the governor termed it a very commendable step which , he thought, ought to have been taken much earlier.

He said paucity of funds was impeding efforts for development, but hoped that, with judicious use of available resources, “ we can ensure accelerated development in these disciplines.”

The governor advised the university administration to look into the feasibility of opening a computer centre in every hostel so that students — both boys and girls — could derive benefit from it.

Earlier, he was informed that the computer centre at the university had been set up 50 computers. The seat quota for the male and female students would stand at 30:20. Photocopying, printing, digital photography and Internet facilities would be available at the centre at minimum cost.
