GUJRANWALA, June 11: A Gepco team severed on Tuesday electricity supply to the District Council Secretariat and the District Nazim’s office because of non-payment of bills.

The employees of secretariat and district Nazim’s office worked under trees in the compound or in corridors.

According to reports, District Nazim’s office (former deputy commissioner office) owed Rs450,000 while the district council secretariat Rs115,000 to Gepco.

The District Nazim’s office premises houses the offices of executive district officer (revenue), district officer, deputy district officer and assistant district officers (revenue) while Naib Nazim’s office and district council secretariat are situated in the district council premises.

District Nazim Fiaz Ahmad Chattha has set his camp office at a residential quarter adjacent to the district council building while Naib Nazim Gohar Zaman has did not attend his office.

A district council spokesman said on Tuesday that Rs700,000 funds had been released and the Gepco bills would be cleared within next two days.
