LAHORE, June 10: The Punjab University College of Information Technology announced on Monday it was launching a three-year PhD programme from October this year. Initially, the college would admit eight to ten students in the programme.

The vice-chancellor, Lt-Gen Arshad Mahmood (retired), has given the formal go-ahead for the programme.

Talking to Dawn, the PUCIT principal, Prof Dr JS Mirza, said the PhD would be based on original research.

He said the college had also identified the eight courses of study it would offer during the first year of the PhD programme. Four courses each will be taught in two semesters.

The courses designed for the first semester are: digital signal processing, expert systems (artificial intelligence), advanced e-commerce, and research and development methodology. The courses to be offered in the second semester would be finalized well before the culmination of the first semester, the principal said.
