LAHORE, June 10: Responding to a call from the left wing parties of Pakistan, the Communist Party of India, the Socialist Unity Centre of India, the CPIML (Red Flag) and the CPIML (Unity Initiative) have agreed to organize peace demonstrations across India on June 13.
The demonstrators will call for an immediate end to the war like situation, pullback of troops from the Pakistan borders and an end to imperialist intervention in the region.
There will also be a peace demonstration in front of the Lahore Press Club the same day. The representatives of four Left wing parties — the National Workers Party, the Labour Party Pakistan, the Communist Mazdoor Kissan Party and the Pakistan Peoples Party (Shaheed Bhutto) — met in the city on June 8 and decided to hold the joint peace rally. Several trade unions and federations have already agreed to support the peace move.
A call by the Labour Party to the CPIML on June 4 for the holding of peace rallies on the same day was accepted by its leadership and the party is now in discussion with other Left wing forces to organize joint rallies on June 13 across India, says an e-mail received from the CPIML here on Monday.
It will be the first time that left wing parties will hold rallies on the same day and on the same issue across the subcontinent.
