GUJRANWALA, June 10: A bailiff of the local court on Monday recovered a landlord and his son from the illegal custody of Naushera Virkan police lock-up.

Muhammad Nawaz and his son Muhammad Shafi had borrowed money from commission agent Muhammad Shahid. They sold their wheat of 35 acres to a commission agent, but he also snatched their tractor against the pending payment. Later, with the help of police he had them confined in the lock-up where they were tortured.

The district and sessions judge inducted the bailiff when heirs of victims moved court.

Court summoned policeofficers concerned and directed them that tractor of thevictims should be returned instantly.

WOMAN DIES: Heatstroke and humidity claimed the life of an elderly woman near the General Bus Stand here on Monday.

The unidentified woman fainted due to heatstroke and died without getting any medical aid.

Model Town police are investigating the matter.

THREE KILLED: Three people, including a minor student, were killed while a dozen others suffered injuries in road mishaps in and around the city here on Monday.

Primary school student Mohiyuddin was on his way home in Othian village from Nandipur when speeding wagon (LHO-6668) hit him. He died on the spot.

Police have registered a case against wagon crew Muhammad Aslam.

Muhammad Nadim died instantly while around a dozen other passengers of a bus injured when it collided head-on with a truck on the GT Road, Kot Sahan. The injured were rushed to the local DHQ Hospital in critical condition.

A passer-by, Muhammad Hussain, was knocked down and killed by a wagon (LPT-1779) near Mandiala Warraich on the GT Road. He was crossing the road.

Meanwhile, half a dozen buffaloes were killed under wheels of a locomotive near Lohianwala railway track.

Buffaloes were grazing near the track when the Lahore-bound railcar crushed them.
