HYDERABAD, June 10: The Hyderabad District Council here on Monday called upon the government to allocate funds for development works to the councillors elected on reserved seats for women, minority and labour.
Through a resolution, it also called for provision of offices to the councillors.
The session of the council, called by Farheen Mughal and 43 other members to discuss an one-point agenda, was presided over by presiding officer Yousuf Siddiqui in the absence of convener Nawab Rashid Ali Khan.
The convener’s irked women councillors who said that the meeting should not have been fixed for today if he was not scheduled to come.
The resolution said that the labour, minority and women councillors should also be given funds for development schemes as they were being ignored by the district government.
It said that the women councillors should also have been taken into confidence by Nazims of union councils in connection with planning and development of their areas.
The resolution said that the taluka Nazims should be bound down to make available a room in each UC Nazim’s office for the councillors.
The councillors demanded that councillors from each taluka should also be included in the district committees and before the committee’s formation their views should also be obtained.
Urging men members to respect women councillors, the councillors said the women councillors should also be allowed to speak and their speeches should not be interrupted. They added that resolutions tabled by the women councillors must be included in the agenda like those of the men members.
The resolution said that the councillors should also be given share in the Baitulmaal funds.
The council adopted another resolution of Yusuf Qureshi, repeating the demand to declare Hyderabad City calamity-hit area and added that a similar resolution had already been passed but no step had been taken by Sindh government in this regard.
Jamila Khatoon, in her resolution, called for constitution of a committee under the supervision of DCO, Hyderabad, to ensure implementation of laws pertaining to brick kilns.
Referring to the mushroom growth of the kilns, she said that the committee must ensure that the kilns should be established on barren land located at the distance of five kilometres from residential areas.
Pointing out that 52 brick kilns were located in Hyderabad Taluka and new ones were being set up near the high school of Tando Hyder, she called for removal of the kilns from the residential areas.
She said that the gas emitting from the kilns was posing serious health hazards and affecting crops.
The council district demanded removal of ASI Kambrani and constable Shahid Kaimkhai of B-section police for their misconduct with Latifabad UC-5 Nazim Ahsan Mamoon.
The members staged a token walkout from the house as a mark of protest against the incident.
Proceedings of the house were suspended by the convener for 15 minutes when journalists walked out of the house following indecent remarks by the woman councillor Shahida Ansari against journalists.
