OKARA, June 9: A drunkard on Sunday shot dead a man and injured another on being stopped from creating drunk and disorderly law at a street in Ziauddin Colony.
Reports said Sultan Ahmad alias Tipu had taken liquor and was making a noise on his bike in the street when residents Muhammad Tariq and Chaudhry Furqan Ahmad asked him to go away.
This led to scuffle between Tipu and one of the residents. Tipu opened fire on them, killing Furqan within minutes.
Tariq was taken to Lahore in precarious condition.
The drunkard fled before police reached there.
Investigation is under way.
ABOLISHED: The Pakistan Railway authorities have abolished the stop of Awam Express and quota of reserved seats, it is learnt on Sunday.
Social circles have condemned abolition of the stop which would, according to them, make travelling tough.
District Bar President Advocate Rana Muhammad Farooq, Anjuman-i-Tajran Secretary Mian Amjad Ali, Chairman Rehmatul Aalamin, and representatives of various organizations have sent an application to the railways additional general manager to restore the original schedule for the convenience of people.
NOMINATED: The Jamaat-i-Islami district Shoora has nominated two candidates for national assembly and four for provincial assembly for the elections, a press release stated on Sunday.
In case of political adjustments, the JI district Ameer stated the party’s parliamentary board has the authority to change the number of candidates.
Those nominated are Liaquat Ali (NA-144), Azhar Mahmood (NA-145), Malik Naseer Ahmad Wattoo (PP-185), Azhar Mahmood (PP-186), Muhammad Akram Shaheen (PP-191) and Mian Muhammad Fayyaz Wattoo (PP-192).
