Five killed, dozen hurt on road

GUJRANWALA, June 9: Five people, including an elderly woman, were killed while around a dozen others sustained injuries in road accidents in and around the city here on Sunday.

Safia Bibi of Lohianwala was on her way home when a speeding coaster hit her near Rawalpindi By-pass intersection. She died on the spot.

Police have registered a case against the absconding driver.

A cartman, Muhammad Hanif of Ghakkhar town, was knocked down by a tractor-trolley on the GT Road, Amritpura. He was going to Gujranwala from Ghakkhar. He died on the way to the local DHQ Hospital.

Muhammad Imran of Qila Dedar Singh was killed instantly while a dozen others were injured when a Hafizabad-bound wagon rammed into a stationary tractor-trolley near Philoki village. The injured were rushed to the Civil Hospital, Qila Dedar Singh, in critical condition.

Muhammad Boota of Daska Road and Zulfikar Ahmad of Sialkot Road were crushed to death by a speeding bus and a truck, respectively, on the Sialkot Road. They were crossing the road.
