KARACHI, June 8: Speakers at a rally held here on Saturday afternoon rejected the Thal canal project and termed it against the interest of Sindh.

They said the province had been facing a severe water shortage for the past several years, but the rulers were not serious about solving the problem.

They urged the government to ensure the supply of water to Sindh according to the 1991 water accord and stop treating Sindh as a “colony.”

The Jeay Sindh Mahaz organized the rally outside Karachi Press Club.

Carrying banners and placards, the participants shouted slogans against the Kalabagh dam project, Thal canal project and influx of aliens into Sindh.

The speakers were JSM chief Abdul Khalique Junejo, National Workers Party leader Usman Baloch and Sindh Poriate leader Mohammed Khan Chandio.

They accused the rulers of subjugating the people by turning their fertile lands into desert, retrenching workers and depriving youths of employment opportunities.

They made it clear that people of Sindh would never give in to the pressure of rulers and they would continue their struggle for achieving their legitimate rights.

PEACE RALLY: Earlier, a peace rally, under the aegis of the Pakhtoon Students Federation, was held outside the KPC urging the governments of Pakistan and India to ork for peace and harmony in the region.
