ISLAMABAD, Oct 7: A man was killed and another injured in a clash between two rival groups in Sector G-7/2 here on Saturday evening, police said.

According to eye-witnesses, the two sides exchanged fire for about one hour and no police official reached there during this time.

The clash erupted between Sohail Masih and Nawazul Haq, when a jirga was in session for reconciliation between them.

Both of them had a dispute over the issue of gas-cylinders theft.

After intervention of some area notables, the two sides had agreed to resolve the issue through a Jirga, the eye-witnesses said.

While the talks were underway, Nadeem and Dilawar allegedly opened fire on Sohail and injured him. In retaliation, some friends of Sohail attacked Nawazul Haq, a police report said.

The injured, Sohail and Nawaz, were taken to the Federal Government Services Hospital, where Sohail died. The condition of Nawaz is stated to be serious.

Later, the angry relatives and friends of Sohail set on fire the house of Nawaz. The whole drama continued throughout the night, but the police failed to arrest any accused in the case.

The Aabpara police have registered cases against both the parties. The first case was lodged on the complaint of Munawar Masih against Nadeem and Dilawar Masih, while the second FIR was lodged on the complaint of Nawazul Haq.

BODY FOUND: The body of an unidentified 25-year-old man has been found from a pond in Misrial on Sunday, police said.

The police said some passers-by had spotted the body floating in the pond and informed the police.

HOUSES LOOTED: Robbers and burglars have looted two houses in Rawalpindi and Islamabad on Saturday.

In the first incident, five armed robbers entered the house of Safeer Ahmed in Misrial and looted Rs90,000 cash, jewellery and electronics items after holding the inmates at gunpoint.

In the second incident, burglars broke into the house of Nasreen Akhtar in Sector G-9/2, Islamabad, during her absence and looted jewellery and electronics items.

Nasreen told the Margalla police that she had gone to visit her relatives.

She said that when she returned, she found the locks of her house broken and a television set, gold ornaments and two wrist watches were missing.
