Chan stops Farhan

KARACHI, May 3: Chan Wai Ki of China Hong Kong stopped Farhan Mirza’s progress in pre-quarterfinal of 19th Asian Snooker Championship by overpowering him 5-2 to reach the quarterfinal at Jiangmen City (China).

According to a message received by Pakistan Billiards and Snooker Association, Friday, Chan started confidently by taking the opening two frames with superb potting.

But sixth seed Farhan pulled the third and 6th frame before bowing out of the competition. Chan won 87-07, 114-16,

01-72, 66- 31, 57-55, 53-74 and 58-28.

Pakistan other cueist Khurram Agha failed to advance in the knock out stage of the championship.

The day five of the championship saw Ding Jun Hui of China dethroned holder Yasin Merchant of India, by handing out 5-0 defeat on the top seed. Ding cracked a brilliant break of 108 in the fourth to show his ascendancy in the match.

Host Chinese cueists dominated the competition as all six of them stormed into the last eight stage of the competition alongwith one Thai and a China Hong Kong player.

In the meantime Asian Confederation of Billiards Sport (ACBS) in its Annual General Body meeting has allocated India to stage the 20th edition of the Asian championship in year 2003.

‘India won the bid for the Asian event and has been asked by ACBS to confirm within in three months about staging the championship.

Qatar also won the bid to host the Asian Snooker in year 2004 at ACBS, AGM, message said.—APP
