SIALKOT, May 1: Intelligence agencies have sent the lists of those union council Nazimeen, Naibs and councillors of Sialkot and Narowal districts who performed poorly in the presidential referendum.

Sources told Dawn that district governments of both cities were unhappy for their poor performance because they had failed to motivate the people for the presidential referendum.

The elected representatives were now employing their influence to remain in the ‘good books’ of the government by seeking forgiveness from the anguish rulers, they said.

Local political pandits are of the view that entire dependence upon UC Nazimeen, Naibs and councillors has brought bad name for district governments in respect of the presidential referendum.

CBR DECISION: The Central Board of Revenue (CBR) has decided to abolish all circles of the Income Tax Department.

This was stated by CBR member, Islamabad, Waqeel Ahmad Khan, while speaking at a meeting of the Sialkot Tax Bar Association chaired by Sahibzada Saeed Ahmad here on Wednesday.

He said all zones would soon be divided into three basic sections which would include the setting up of separate sections of recovery assessment and appellate in every zone.

He said this would benefit the business community and would give a special package of relief to tax payers.

The government, he said, was evolving effective policies for giving more relief to tax payers by simplifying the tax paying procedure.

This would not only help in wiping out corruption from the income and sales tax department but would also conducive in curbing the menace of “understanding” between the tax evaders and the corrupt officials, he added.
