PML leaders oppose referendum

KOHAT, April 29: The PML (N) leaders have accused President Pervez Musharraf of deviating from the basic ideology of Pakistan and capturing power through unconstitutional means.

The provincial and central leaders of PML addressing a party meeting held here on Monday, said those politicians who were supporting the government of Pervez Musharraf had proved that they never believed in democracy and independent functioning of state institutions.

Sabir Shah in his speech claimed that everything was being done at the behest of the US which wanted Pakistan’s role in the long war against terrorism and to occupy the central Asian states for their own economic benefits.

He opined to achieve this objective referendum was being held to legalize the army role.

He said Gen Musharraf and his supporters to hold elections after allowing Benazir Bhutto and Mian Nawaz Sharif to come to Pakistan and then to evaluate his two-and-a-half year performance and popularity among the masses.
