KARACHI, April 18: Admissions to MBBS and BDS programmes at the government-run medical colleges have been planned for the last week of September, said official sources on Thursday.

It was learnt that a meeting of the principals of the colleges concerned and senior officials of the Sindh health department was held recently to discuss the admission policy for the next academic session in the medical colleges of the province.

The meting was also informed that a cut of 10 per cent, as recommended by the PMDC, in the medical colleges’ seats would again be effected for the new session.

An official at the health department said that applications for the new admissions would be invited in the last week of September, while the tentative date for the entrance test was October 15.

“While the teaching for the ongoing session commenced on January 1, we have planned to start the teaching for the newcomers of the 2002-2003 in the last week of November,” added the official.

Referring to his talks with the authorities at the educational boards in the city, the official mentioned that intermediate results were likely to be out latest by August, while marks sheets would be made available to students by September 15.

The official said he expected the Board of Secondary Education, Karachi, to expedite its work pertaining to the issuance of matric certificates to the candidates who appeared in the SSC annual examinations in the year 2000, in order to enable them to have their certificates well in advance for the purpose of admission documentation for medical colleges.
