KARACHI, April 12: The Traffic Police have realized over Rs22 million from violators since January last during their special campaign against reckless driving.

From Jan to April 11, the traffic police issued 186,862 tickets, of which 14,111 were for reckless driving, 2,054 for juvenile driving, 17,127 for having no ladies compartment, etc.

The traffic police also arrested 2,435 drivers under Section 279 of the PPC and 1,658 drivers under the Motor Vehicle Ordinance.

The total amount of fine imposed was Rs27.399 million and the amount realized was Rs22.318 million.

Of the total number of tickets issued, the concerned court decided 153,654 tickets while decision on 33,208 tickets is pending.

The traffic police, during the campaign, also seized 1,500 tape recorders and 1,511 pressure horns. Besides, 2,768 fitness certificates were also suspended.

During another special campaign launched from March 4, 2002, violators of headlights, indicators, signals, those driving without a licence, etc, were also fined.—PPI/APP
