Lowari Top opened

Published April 12, 2002

CHITRAL, April 11: Lowari Top has been opened for light vehicles from Thursday after the works and services department cleared the snow from the road.

The road had been closed after heavy snowfall in January last. The supply of commodities of daily use had run out in the district due to the closure of the top.

HUNGER STRIKE: The workers of the Tanzeem Tahaffuz Huqooq (TTH), Chitral, observed a token hunger strike for eight hours in a polo ground here on Wednesday to press the government to begin work on the Lowari Tunnel project.

A large number of people thronged the polo ground to register their protest against the delay in work on the tunnel project, which is an essential part of an all-weather route to Chitral.

A shutterdown strike will be observed on April 15.
