US ‘double standards’ flayed

Published April 12, 2002

LAHORE, April 11: The Joint Action Committee for People’s Rights staged at the Faisal Sqaure on Thursday a demonstration to condemn the continuing Israeli atrocities against the Palestinians.

Men and women belonging to the committee lined up along the road and displayed placards inscribed with slogans condemning the Israeli atrocities and the silence of the US and other ‘champions of human rights’ over the worst kind of HR violations by the Israeli forces.

Talking to newsmen on the occasion, Human Rights Commis-sion of Pakistan secretary-general Ms Hina Jilani said it was strange that the US claiming to champion the cause of human rights and waging a war against terrorism worldwide was silent over the worst kind of terrorism and violations of human rights being perpetrated by the Israeli forces.

She said that the US should adopt a uniform policy against terrorism and human rights violations for all the countries in the world. It should stop following double standards in this regard. She said that more of such demonstrations would be organised to condemn Israeli barbarism.
