Smiling Senorita favourite

KARACHI, April 6: Six events have been chalked out for the Summer Gymkhana Meeting, which gets underway at the Karachi Race Course on Sunday from 1-30 p.m.

All the events will be held over the sprinting distance of five furlongs.

In the opening event with eight runners in contention, Syed Ali Ghour Shah’s six-year-old bay mare Royal Springs finishing second, one and half lengths behind Powerful Tarzan in her last outing, and if called upon, should win this race from the aged chestnut gelding Smart Boy and another aged contender Sher Khan.

The next event has a big field of 18 runners vying for the top honours. Of the lot Sajan Black looks a good thing to pick up the spoils challenged throughout the five furlong sprint by Little Sunny and Simple Prayer.

The eight-year-old grey gelding Ever Shine has the speed to finish the third race ahead of the other 17 rivals, closely followed home by the much talked about bay filly Noor-un-Nisa and Royal Wisdom.

The last race on the afternoon’s programme has only six runners vying for the top honours. Smiling Senorita a four-year-old filly from Tanuf out of Uzmina, has already a hat trick under her belt under her new trainer Iftikhar Ali.

Continuing in her fine form Smiling Senorita starts off as our day’s best and should make it four winners in a row for her owner Shahrukh, unless Queen Of Hearts decides to prove our column wrong.
