GUJRANWALA, June 5: Various organizations on Wednesday held exercise in many cities of the Punjab to prepare themselves to face any aggression from the enemy.

Civil defence, police, health, fire brigade and bomb disposal units held a joint exercise in various parts of the city and in Wazirabad. Provincial Law Minister Brig Hamid Saeed (retired) watched the exercises in Gujranwala.

A mock explosion in the Board of Intermediate and Secondary Education Complex ground, Tower Chowk, Wapda Town and near Wazirabad railway station was held. Sirens were also tested to warn people of air attacks.

Brig Saeed pointed out lapses in the working of departments and urged them to remove them.

He also inspected an operation room of civil defence and directed all government functionaries to be alert. Executive district officers (EDOs) of various departments gave briefing to the minister.

BAHAWALPUR: Civil defence and other departments carried out exercises in various parts of the city on Wednesday.

Sirens were sounded in the city forenoon. A fire fighting exercise was conducted at Fawara Chowk and One-unit Chowk where a large number of people witnessed it.

People were informed about the exercises on Tuesday.

Meanwhile, the health department has prepared a contingency plan to meet any emergency situation. Under the plan, all THQs, RHCs and BHCs have been directed to reserve 35 beds along with life-saving drugs, oxygen cylinders and blood. They were also directed to arrange electric generators for hospitals and keep ambulances ready.

SIALKOT: A full dress rehearsal of civil defence department was held here on Wednesday. A large number of the people participated in rehearsal.

Punjab Finance Minister Tariq Hameed witnessed the exercise and underlined the need to reorganize the civil defence on modern lines.
