Delimitation of Haripur criticized

Published March 31, 2002

HARIPUR, March 30: Rejecting the delimitation of the district for the general election, Tehsil Nazim Iftekhar Ashraf Khan advocate and Naib Nazim Amin Khan Bodhra advocate have termed it part of pre-poll rigging by some defeated elements.

The Haripur district was delimited in four provincial assembly constituencies as a seat abolished in 1985 has been restored.

The constituencies in the district as per notification of the Election Commission are PF 49, 50, 51 and 52, instead of earlier PF 39, 40 and 41.

In a statement, they dubbed the delimitation process illogical, unethical and against the geographical conditions.

The Nazim alleged those who could not win in the last three elections had conspired and engineered the delimitation for their convenience. He threatened to move the court and launch a protest movement against the delimitation.

Former provincial minister Yusuf Ayub has also, in a statement, raised objections against the delimitation and asked the authorities concerned to change the constituencies in view of the natural and geographic division of the area.
