HYDERABAD, June 5: The Hyderabad District Council on Wednesday expressed concern over the shortage of filter water in the district and demanded of the government to release water at Kotri downstream to cater to the needs of growers.

Labour councillor Rana Mehmood Ali Khan tabled two resolutions in this connection, calling for action against those officials of Wasa who were allegedly involved in the supply of contaminated water.

The resolutions also urged the government to release funds to Wasa for its recurring expenditure and said that policies should be formulated to avoid shortage of irrigation water.

It was the second day of the requisitioned meeting on shortage of irrigation water and supply of contaminated water.

At the outset of the session, Farheen Mughal pointed out lack of quorum but presiding officer Q. Mohammad Hakim continued the proceedings.

Awam Dost Panel-backed candidates staged a walk-out for a brief period for denying an opportunity of speech but City and Latifabad talukas members persuaded them to return to the session.

Rohri Canal Superintending Engineer, Nawaz Memon told the members that water had increased up to 25 feet from the dead level at the Tarbela Dam.
