LAHORE, March 28: Special grant will be given to all the financially unviable tehsils in the province to enable them carry out development activities and run their business.

This was stated by Punjab chief secretary Imtiaz Masrur on Thursday while presiding over a meeting of tehsil Nazims and tehsil municipal officers of various areas here.

As a first step, the Punjab government had already given Rs1 million to Rs2 million to these tehsils, he said.

The meeting was told that senior officers had been posted as TO Infrastructure at the district headquarters to resolve problems being faced by the tehsil administration in getting technical approval for their development schemes.

They would sanction the projects of all tehsils of a district but the projects would be executed by the respective tehsil municipal administration.

Similarly, it was stated, special cells had been set up at Lahore, Rawalpindi, Faisalabad and Multan under the Public Health Engineering Department to accord technical approval to such development schemes which were beyond the powers of district officers.

It was stated that arrangements were being made for the local payment of salaries to all officers and officials of tehsils. Funds for the purpose would be provided to all tehsils during the next financial year.

EXPORT: Mr Masrur, meanwhile, urged the private sector to export quality food, fruits and flowers to earn money and fame for the country.

He was speaking at a local hotel after inaugurating a food, fruits and flowers exhibition held under the auspices of Lahore Chamber of Commerce and Industry.
